The Story of The Oakwood Inn
Built during the post-WWII "See the USA in your Chevrolet" travel boom, The Oakwood first opened its doors in the early 1950s. Like roughly 20 roadside motor courts that once lined US Highways 138 and 6, it was designed with a straightforward purpose: practical, park-at-your-door convenience for cross-country motorists.
The anchor of the property is a classic 1930s farmhouse, originally built as a private homestead just before the highway saw an explosion of automotive travel. When travel surged in the early '50s, the motel units and wrap-around parking lot were constructed alongside the house, establishing a utilitarian layout built for convenience.
In the early 1990s, the property underwent a major functional upgrade: most rooms were retrofitted with kitchenettes to serve traveling crews, trade workers, and extended-stay visitors seeking self-contained practicality.
Under the Foxhoven family, the focus has remained strictly on comfort, cleanliness, and function. Rather than superficial styling, The Oakwood embraces clean simplicity—solid, comfortable rooms where you pull right up to your door, settle in, and have everything you need. Modernized early on with keyless digital locks and virtual check-in, the property is operated by the second generation of Foxhovens following years in Denver's corporate hotel sector.
